Taking your Company to the Next Level with EOS® and Beyond: What is the Entrepreneurial Operating System?

You are ready to take your business to the next level, or maybe you've hit a plateau. A new approach to running or scaling your business to get all the gears in sync, including a more efficient and streamlined operating system, could be just what you need. Maybe you've heard of the widely used Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS®), but finding the time or capacity to learn and implement it seems out of reach. Using this proven operating system for your business can certainly assist in achieving your short and long-term goals. Let's jump into a quick overview so you can learn more about EOS® and how it can be of utmost benefit to your business.

EOS® Overview

Gino Wickman's, Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS®), is a powerful business system that provides entrepreneurs like you with an easier way to manage and grow your business. As explained in Traction, EOS® helps maximize potential by streamlining operations and creating alignment among leaders and team members. At its core, this operating system consists of a set of tools and processes that will help effectively implement your vision. On a larger scale, it's designed to help create an environment where your team is focused on the same goals and working together toward success. It's based on 6 key components: Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction.

Vision Component

The Vision/Traction Organizer is an EOS® tool that enables the Visionary's ideas and plans to be communicated and clarified among your leadership team. This helps your leadership team define, document, align upon, and share the organization’s Core Values, Core Focus, Target, Marketing Strategy, 1 Year Plan, 3 Year Picture, Long Term (10 yr) Target as well as Issues and Rocks. This ensures that everyone is on the same page and working to achieve the same goals.

People Component

Are the right people occupying the right seats? Do they get it, want it, and have the capacity to do it? The Accountability Chart can help you effectively define roles and responsibilities, all the while ensuring you have the right team members in the right roles. This will also help set clear expectations and hold people accountable for their roles and responsibilities. With this in place tasks are completed as efficiently as possible.

Data Component

As you know, data is essential to run a business. Data allows us to track progress and identify when adjustments or changes are necessary. Of course, using data from within is some of the most important data you can use! The Scorecard is an EOS® tool used to measure progress and track tactical results each week. This keeps everyone accountable and focused on hitting goals. The Scorecard helps you measure the important elements of your business such as cash flow, sales, customer satisfaction, and team morale to make sure that all areas are performing optimally.

Issues Component

While every business has and will continue to have issues arise, strong businesses can identify and solve them promptly. EOS® helps you create an Issues list. This list enables you to identify and prioritize the issues, assign them to individuals responsible for solving those issues, and most importantly discuss solutions. By doing this, you and your team can quickly solve issues that could be preventing success.

Process Component

The Process component helps you streamline your processes and procedures. This is accomplished by creating a set of consistent standard operating procedures (SOPs) that are used for everyday tasks. By defining and adhering to these SOPs, you can ensure that tasks are completed in the most efficient way possible. The Process component helps you define the most efficient processes so that everyone is on the same page, time and resources are not wasted, and quality is consistent.

Traction component

To turn a vision into reality, it is necessary to have traction. The Traction component of EOS® provides an organized approach to goal setting and achievement. This includes the 90-day Pulse, Rocks (next 90-day priorities), Meeting Pulse, Level 10 Meetings, and more. When utilized effectively, the Traction component can help you break down your goals into manageable pieces that are achievable, measurable, and accountable. This helps to ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives and efforts are directly contributing to them.
